JEREMY BENSON McDonough County Clerk

As we enter the final weeks before petition circulation begins, I want to remind you of the valuable trainings and resources being provided by the Democratic Party of Illinois.

  1. Virtual Petition Trainings: These are public events open to staff, volunteers, and candidates. Please feel free to share widely. (Flyer with QR codes and key dates is attached.)
    1. Field & Data: Tuesday, July 29th at 6 PM
    2. Best Legal Practices: Wednesday, July 30th at 6 PM
      1. Note: Both sessions will be recorded and shared with all respondents and County Chairs.
  2. Scale to Win: Scale to Win is a peer-to-peer texting and dialer platform built by former organizers. With the Democratic Party of Illinois’ contract, candidates can access a discounted rate of less than 2 cents per text segment.
  3. Mobilize: If your County Party does not currently have access to your own Mobilize page, please submit any Petition Drive or Petition Party events HERE so we can promote them on the Democratic Party of Illinois Mobilize page. This allows you to easily share events with your networks.
  4. County Chair Ballot Access Checklist: Attached is a checklist of key action items to support a strong start to petition season—including volunteer recruitment and securing election lawyers.
  5. IDCCA/DPI Contact Information:
    1. Dan Kovats, IDCCA Executive Director - [email protected]
    2. Nick Roberson, DPI NW IL - [email protected]
    3. Tyler Bontemps, DPI Downstate IL - [email protected]
    4. Morgan Tadish, DPI NW Cook & Collar Counties - [email protected]
    5. Mariana Thomas, DPI SW Cook & Collar Counties - [email protected]
    6. Uriah Baker, DPI Constituency Outreach Director - [email protected]

During petition season, our role will center on providing strategic support rather than engaging in direct fieldwork, due to the limited capacity of our Regional Directors. We will focus on facilitating key connections between County Chairs and statewide candidates, and coordinating the secure transport of petitions from county parties to those candidates.

Additionally, we will offer support at county-hosted petition review events on an as-needed basis, assisting with the verification and organization of petition booklets to help ensure accuracy and completeness. This collaborative and capacity-conscious approach enables us to make a meaningful contribution in every corner of the state to ensure our candidates are on the ballot and prepared to run.
